CHAMPAGNE SUSHI PARTY
IN HONOUR OF GOURMAND AWARDS 2001
BEST ASIAN COOKBOOK IN THE WORLD

Authors Emi Kazuko and Yasuko Fukuoka were honoured at a Champagne Suchi Party on March 9 in London for their book Japanese Food and Cooking published in English by Lorenz Books, UK which received the Gourmand Awards 2001 for Best Asian Cuisine Cookbook in the World.

Emi Kazuko is a leading cookery writer and journalist who has written four other cookbooks, in both Japanese and English. She also contributes articles to magazines, and has had programmes on Radio 4 and the BBC World Service. She hopes Japanese cooking will one day become part of western peoples daily diet. Yasuko Fukuoka brings to recipes her talent in harmony, balance and beauty: she is a successful musician and composer.

The Sushi Party took place at Kiku Restaurant, 17 Half Moon Street in Mayfair, London. The Toro and Hamachi were mouth watering, a party hellped by champagne bubbles. Champagne Gosset was chosen as the best possible drink for the best sushi dinner of the year. She says in her book: There have been many attempts in the West to find out which wine goes best with Japanese food, and some food and wine experts even claim Champagne best suits the cuisine. She was proven right when thirty bottles of Champagne Gosset were drunk, an equal number of Gosset Rosé and Grande Reserve. Champagne Gosset has small exclusive production. It is available in London at Selfridges, Harrods and Fortnum and Mason. The guests connoisseurs, including Japanese writers and journalists, prominent members of the London Japanese Comunity, members of the English Guild of Food Writers, and of IACP, The International Association of Culinary Professionals.

Edouard Cointreau, Chairman of the Gourmand Awards Committee attended the Champagne Sushi Party and announced that Japan was the invited country for this year awards event in Périgueux, France, on November 28-December 1, 2002, when 30.000 visitors are expected to enjoy the World Cookbook Fair.
