COOKBOOK PHOTOGRAPHY

A LOOK BACK AT PAST WINNERS

There are now 24.000 new cookbook titles published every year. Sales growth has been steady since 1995 at 5% a year.

Food photography has been one of the major factors for the growth of the global cookbook market. Some of the best photographers in the world are now turning to food photography.

For seven years the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards have rewarded food photographers for their cookbooks.

From 1998 to 2003 Gourmand has had awards for cookbook photographers cookbooks in 21 countries. The list of winners includes some of the top stars world. Very few are known world wide such as the late Bruno Hausch or Christian Teubner, many are only known locally or regionally, even if they are excellent, such as Francesc Guillamet for El Bulli, Denis Nidos of France or Thomas Ruhl of Germany.

The winners for the Gourmand Awards 2004 for the different countries will be known at the end of November in each country. The winner for Best in the World 2004 will be announced on February 11, 2005 at the Gourmand World Gala event in Grythyttan, Sweden. The host for the event will be television star Yvan Cadiou, a French Chef who speaks English and has had many shows on BBC, Carlton, Gourmet TV and many others in different countries.

This year Gourmand has received 20% more books than last year, well over 4.000 books to compete in the various categories.

It is the Tenth Year for the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, created in 1994 to honour those who cook and drink with words.
